When it comes to interior design, it isn’t uncommon for people to focus on the walls, the furniture, and the decor, disregarding the windows and doors. The truth, however, is that your windows can actually play a huge part in your interior design and influence the overall flow of how your space looks.

Not only do windows provide natural light, but they can be a great part of your design as well. Since you can add things to your windows, you will get a great view from the inside of the outside and of the inside as well. If you’re looking for a good way to spice up your space, here are some ways you can design your windows to spruce up the look of your home interior:

Natural light

As mentioned, natural light is a great way to bring out the best in a space. Humans, like plants, need sunlight in order to live. We may not photosynthesize, but natural light is important for your body, mind, and spirit to thrive. Bring the outdoors indoors by allowing your windows to stay open and let the sun shine through. With windows, you can get some vitamin D while you’re inside!

Complementary windows

It is important that you make sure that your windows complement the interior design of your home. Whatever theme you have for the room of each specific window, you want to make sure that your curtain and even your window design work well and go together with the rest of it. You want everything to be complementary to one another, so make sure you choose your windows wisely when you are designing your home.

Framing

If you have a great view right outside your home, a window is a great way to bring that picturesque beauty into your room. Look at a window as a frame for the outside beauty of your garden or whatever your home is overlooking. There is nothing quite like waking up to a beautiful view of the ocean or enjoying a city skyline at sunset.

Skylights

There’s nothing more amazing than being able to look up at the sky from the comfort of your living room. Make it feel like you are outside in nature without even having to leave your home. Opening up your ceiling with skylights is a great way of making your home feel a little bigger, allowing a source of natural light into your room, and serving a design function of your space as well. You may install many varieties of window treatments in order to control the lighting if you please.

Opacities

If you are worried about your privacy but still want to utilize your windows in your space, there are great options for window films that can still give you the privacy you require while keeping your room bright with natural light. There are a variety of opacity levels for your window styles. Consider checking out frosted glass, which will offer a minimal and chic look in any modern home. Put some window tints on your skylight so that you can get just enough natural light in your home without causing any damage to your furniture.
